REVIEW: The Loyal Heart by Shelley Shepard Gray

Civil War widow Miranda Markham is at the end of her rope.  She has been ostracized by Galveston community where she has turned the family home into a boarding house.  A prison promise between Confederate soldiers/officers leads Robert Truax to Miranda’s house to check in on her.  The townsfolk, encouraged by Miranda’s bitter mother-in-law and sister-in law, call her deceased husband a traitor and a spy.  Miranda knows, as does Robert, that it cannot be true.  But, how do you survive such a hostile environment? Robert arrives to protect Miranda and eventually learns of the threatening letters she receives each week.  Who can be trusted in this community to help Miranda move forward?

Thanks to Zondervan Fiction for providing me an ARC for a review in my own words.
