REVIEW: I Shall be Near to You by Erin McCabe

Devotion and a little desperation lead Rosetta to follow her newlywed husband to the Union Army.  The story takes place over about 18 months during 1862 and 1863.  Jeremiah Wakefield has always been Rosetta’s champion.  She finds herself adrift on the homefront when he heads out to join the army and earn money so they can buy their own homestead.  Determined, Rosetta creates the role of Ross Stone and becomes one of the guys, albeit a small one, with the Civil War.

This story takes a slice of history to explain how and why some women did disguise themselves and join the war.  I found the story educational and interesting.  Thank you to Waterbrook Press for providing me a copy for a review in my own words.
